NFL Player Learns via a Tweet He Lost $2 Million

NFL player Tarell Brown's agent had one job to do. (One job!) And he didn't do it, as Brown learned the hard way via an article on Twitter.

See, Brown is a cornerback entering the final year of contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He was supposed to earn $2.95 million this year. Not bad, right? His yearly salary included $925,000 in base pay along with a stipulation that he could collect the rest if he spent the now-concluded off-season working out at the team's Northern California headquarters.

But Brown says he never got that memo from his agent. So he instead spent the off-season working out back in his home state of Texas. You hear that? That's the sound of $2 million flushing down the toilet.

It gets worse, however. Brown says he didn't learn this highly important bit of news from the 49ers, or from his since-fired agent, Brian Overstreet. No, according to CBS Sports, Brown learned he was out two-thirds of his assumed salary when he saw this tweet on Thursday:

"I no longer have an agent as of now," Brown told the Sacramento Bee. "No one wants to leave money on the table. If I would have known the clauses in my contract and that's what agents get paid to do ? to orchestrate the contract and let you know what you can and can't do as far as workouts and OTAs and things of that sort. That's what he got paid to do, he didn't do that, so in my opinion he had to be let go."

Suffice to say Tarell Brown has had better weeks.

Who's at fault here ? player or agent? Give us your take in the comments.
