Bradie James, Texans kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Texans kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday by hosting the Tickled Pink Spa Day, an appreciation event for 20 women undergoing breast cancer treatment and their caregivers.

Inside linebacker Bradie James visited the guests in the Tejas Suite at Reliant Stadium as they took a break from treatment to enjoy lunch, spa services and a ?Look Good, Feel Better? presentation from the American Cancer Society.

James, who lost his mother to breast cancer in 2001, knows first-hand of the hardships cancer patients endure while battling for their lives.

?I?ve made a vow to do everything I can to help eradicate, help meet the disease where it is and help these women and families to be more informed as to what to expect,? James said. ?Breast cancer doesn?t just affect women, it affects the whole family.?

After the ladies were through with their manicures, massages and facials, James surprised them with 40 tickets to the Texans? Breast Cancer Awareness Game against the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 14. The Texans will wear pink on the Sunday Night Football game in honor of the cause.

?By us wearing pink on the field, it creates so much awareness and lets so many people know that we are supporting the fight,? James said. ?If your football heroes can wear pink, anybody can wear pink.?

Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees sporting pink game apparel for the ?A Crucial Catch? campaign, which focuses on the importance of annual breast cancer screenings. To date, the NFL-American Cancer Society partnership has raised more than $3 million, with the majority generating from the sale of pink items at retail and on NFL Auction.

The Texans also are a sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Houston on Oct. 6.
