Add an end-over-end flip and crash to Tony Stewart?s wild week.
Stewart, racing a sprint car for fun Monday night at the Ohsweken Speedway dirt track in Ontario, Canada, flipped five times while racing for the lead with Shane Stewart (no relation). The three-time NASCAR Cup champion appeared to run up on the cushion and get sideways, which sent his car tumbling.
He was uninjured and walked away from the crash, but it certainly got his attention.
Spokesan Mike Arning told USA TODAY Sports in an email: ?Tony Stewart is fine. He walked away from last night?s accident unhurt and will race tonight in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature event at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada. (He is the defending race winner.)?
It?s been quite an eventful week for Stewart.
On Wednesday, he hosted NASCAR?s first dirt race in 43 years at the Eldora Speedway track he owns in Ohio. The race was widely praised, and Stewart got much of the credit.
Then it was on to Sunday?s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where Ryan Newman won the race while driving a Stewart-owned car (Stewart finished fourth).
Stewart is often in motion, though, and he planned to keep packing in races as part of his hectic schedule.
?I think I race every day (this) week except for Wednesday, and that?s a test,? Stewart said after Indianapolis. ?So a lot of those days are doubled-up days. We have a busy week. Can?t think of a better week to celebrate.?
He called racing at Ohsweken a ?night of rest,? but he certainly didn?t plan on spending part of it upside down.
